In lands where everything reasonable wishes you death, it will not be out of place to carefully listen to what is happening around: the noise of steps and the sounds of a moving car will tell you where the enemy is – however, this works in the opposite direction.

If you hear distant shots, or, worse, shots nearby, then the best strategy would be to retreat away. You even need to retreat skillfully – the running player is heard from afar, therefore it is safest to leave with the usual step, bending down or crawling.
